Senior journalist Dr Shashi Bhushan brought honour to Bihar by receiving the “Smaran Udant Martand Samman 2026”
A grand ceremony was held at Kolkata Girls’ College on May 30th to mark the completion of 200 glorious years of Hindi journalism.
Renowned journalist from Bihar, Shashi Bhushan, witnessed the celebration of 200 glorious years of Hindi journalism. To mark this glorious year of journalism, Dr. Shashi Bhushan Kumar, a senior journalist from Bihar known for his mother tongue and human rights journalism in SAARC countries, was honored with this award at the International Seminar and Smran Udant Martand Samman 2026, organised by the SAARC Journalists Forum Indian Chapter, the most active organisation of journalists from SAARC countries, and the Bharatiya Hindi Pracharak Parishad, at Kolkata Girls’ College in Kolkata. Several other journalists were also honoured. Chief guests on this occasion included Professor Shambhu Nath Tiwari, a senior professor at Aligarh University and Eklavya scholar, and Professor Asmita Mishra, a senior professor at Delhi University and a member of the SAARC Journalists Forum Central Committee, and Professor Asmita Mishra, an Indian Hindi professor. Approximately 100 journalists, professors, literary figures, and academics from India and abroad, including the Council’s General Secretary, Professor Sanjeev Dubey, were present. The guests were welcomed by Professor Satya Upadhyay, Principal of Kolkata Girls’ College, while the stage was moderated by Dr. Aniruddha Sudhanshu, President of the Journalists Forum India Chapter.
It is worth noting that just this year, Sri Lanka’s most renowned organization, the South Asia Collaboration Foundation, awarded Bihar journalist Shashi Bhushan Kumar the “South Asia Hero Award 2026” for his journalism leadership in South Asian countries like India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Sri Lanka. In 2025, Dr. Shashi Bhushan was awarded the “Dharmaditya Dharmacharya International Mother Language Journalism Award 2025,” named after Dharmaditya Dharmacharya, the father of mother tongue journalism in Nepal, for his outstanding work in mother tongue journalism in SAARC countries. He has also been honored with numerous awards in countries like Thailand and Mauritius.
