Two dozen journalists and academics were honored.
The two-day international seminar was organised under the joint aegis of SAARC Journalists Forum, India Chapter, Bhartiya Adhyapak Parishad and Calcutta Girls College. The main focus of this event was the bicentennial year of Udant Martand, the newspaper that laid the foundation of Hindi journalism. In this seminar, along with the journalists from the country and around the world, academicians also gave their views. Journalists and academicians unanimously acknowledged the contribution of journalism in the development of Hindi language, literature and culture.
The programme was inaugurated by Prof. Mohan K, Vice-Chancellor, Sri Venkateswara University, Sikkim and Prof. Rajashree Shukla of Calcutta Girls College by lighting the lamp. occurred in the presence. After the inauguration, the speakers highlighted the journey of Hindi journalism started with ‘Udant Martand’ (India’s first Hindi newspaper) and its role in creating awareness in the society. The keynote speaker senior journalist Prem Shankar Tiwari discussed the struggles of journalism. Prof. Vinod Kumar Mishra, President of Bhartiya Hindi Pradhyapak Parishad said that the power of the pen is greater than the sword. Rudra Subedi, President of SAARC Journalists Forum, Nepal, described Bengal and Udanta Martand as the birth fathers of Hindi journalism and said that the first Nepali journalist in Nepal, Dharmadhikari Dharmaditya, had also started journalism in Nepali language by taking initiation from Bengal. Therefore, India and Bengal can be called the birth place of Nepali journalism. On this occasion, ‘Udanta Martand Shikhar Samman’ Rudra Subedi, (Nepal), Muhammad Sadab, (Nepal) Yuvraj Pandey, (Nepal) Prof. Smit Mishra, (India) Prof. Mohan (India). Rajesh Paswan (India) Prof. Shambhu Nath Tiwari (India). Dr. Shashi Bhushan Kumar Singh (India), Azmat Ali Siddiqui (Nepal), Amar Khadka (Nepal), Prof. Sanjeev Kumar Dubey (India), Prof. Satya Upadhyay (Calcutta) were awarded. Among other journalists, Shailesh Shah Kanu, Chandan Mahato, Satendra Sah, Viplav Vikas and many other personalities were felicitated.

Prof. Smita Mishra, International Committee Member, SAARC Journalists Forum India Chapter thanked all the members of SAARC Journalists Forum from Nepal and also motivated them for better journalism together in future.
