The Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Nilantha Premaratne, recently visited the residence of Sergeant A.M. Anura of the 7 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, a recipient of the Parama Weera Vibhushanaya (PWV), to inquire into the well-being of his family. Sergeant Anura made the ultimate sacrifice in safeguarding the motherland and was honoured with the prestigious PWV for his exceptional bravery.

Sergeant Anura sustained critical injuries in an enemy gunfire attack during an operation in the Periyathampane area on 11 November 2007. Despite sustaining serious injuries, he continued to encourage his comrades to carry on with the operation, disregarding his own condition. He subsequently succumbed to the injuries sustained in the attack, making the ultimate sacrifice for the motherland. In recognition of the exceptional courage he displayed on the battlefield, he was posthumously awarded the PWV.
During the visit to the family residence in Maradankadawala, the Army Commander met the fallen war hero’s wife, Mrs P. Sunanda Wijelatha, their daughter, son and other family members, and expressed his appreciation and respect for them.
During a cordial interaction with the family, the Army Commander inquired into their present well-being and welfare requirements, paying special attention to their needs. He also instructed the relevant authorities to identify the welfare facilities and assistance required by the family and take prompt action to fulfil their requirements.
