Cabinet Approval for Immigration Control Cooperation Agreement Between Sri Lanka and China

A bilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is set to be signed between the Department of Immigration and Emigration of Sri Lanka and the National Immigration Administration of the People’s Republic of China to strengthen immigration control cooperation.

Accordingly, the proposed MoU aims to achieve objectives such as facilitating discussions and visits at the level of heads of institutions and official representatives of both countries, exchanging key official and intelligence information, facilitating visas, immigration, and emigration processes for citizens involved in business, investment, tourism, technical, and scientific fields through an active and constructive approach, taking strict action against human trafficking and smuggling associated with organized crime, and organizing workshops to develop the knowledge, skills, and capacity of officials.

Clearance for the proposed draft agreement has been obtained from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism, as well as from the Attorney General.

Consequently, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal presented by the Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs to sign the Memorandum of Understanding.
