Over 300 mothers and women from the Hambantota District gathered near the Presidential Secretariat yesterday morning (25) to demand the swift enactment of the proposed “Tobacco-Free Generation” policy into law.
Organized by the Hambantota Women’s Development Federation (WDF), the peaceful demonstration commenced around 10:30 AM. During the rally, a petition signed by nearly 15,000 citizens supporting the implementation of the policy to protect Sri Lankan children from tobacco harm was submitted to the President.

This gathering highlighted strong public backing for the policy and reflected mothers’ deep commitment to safeguarding their children from the dangers of tobacco. The group emphasized that any delay in passing this legislation directly threatens the health and future of the nation’s citizens
