A group of over 250 Japanese tourists arrived in Sri Lanka on August 30th, marking what is considered the largest single tourist group to arrive in the country from Japan at one time.
Having toured several key tourist destinations across the island, the group arrived at a hotel in Habarana on September 02nd before visiting the Minneriya National Park to observe wild elephants.
This massive group was brought to Sri Lanka under the initiative of Dr. Ruwan Perera, Chairman of the ‘Little Japan’ organization. The Chairman also joined the group during their safari in the national park.
He stated that the main objectives of this tour are to further strengthen the friendship between Japan and Sri Lanka, raise global awareness about Sri Lanka’s tourism industry, and showcase the country’s rich culture and scenic travel locations to the world.
Arriving near Minneriya National Park in buses, the Japanese tourists enthusiastically boarded safari jeeps to enter the park. Traveling along rugged tracks and water streams, they showed great eagerness to catch a glimpse of the abundant wild elephant population in Minneriya.
Despite the prevailing dry weather, the group had the unique opportunity to witness wild elephants feeding on dried grass and numerous calves roaming within herds.
