The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) has announced that its final decision on the proposed electricity tariff revision will be released on October 14.
PUCSL Director Jayanath Herath confirmed that the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has proposed a 6.8 percent increase in electricity tariffs.
Meanwhile, the Vice President of the CEB Technical Engineers and Supervisors Association, Nandana Udayakumara, stated that the proposed tariff hike has become necessary due to the failure to properly implement restructuring programs within the Board.
Additionally, the Chairman of the Electricity Consumers Association, also Nandana Udayakumara, warned that the board fee—currently Rs. 1.5 million—is expected to rise to nearly Rs. 10 million following the CEB’s divestiture.
